2016 944 Cup Nationals
Where and When
The 944 Cup series will for the first time hold dual 944 Cup National Championships. 944 Cup Nationals is a one race head to head competition to determine the 944 Cup National Champion for each of the three 944 Cup classes in both the East and West.
The venue for the 944 Cup Nationals East will be in Florida at Daytona International Speedway on October 21-23. The venue for 944 Cup Nationals West will be in Texas at the Motorsports Ranch on November 12-13.
944 Cup National Championship Format
Racers must participate in at least one (1) regional event prior to Nationals and display a 944 Cup windshield banner to be eligible to win a National Championship title. Any driver who has participated in at least one regional 944 Cup event during the season is eligible to become either or both East and/or West 944 Cup National Champions.
Any properly licensed 944 racer will be permitted to register and race in the 944 Cup National Championship race regardless of the number of 944 Cup races attended during the season.
Reigning and former National and Regional 944 Cup Champions are eligible to become National Champion regardless of the number of 944 Cup races during the current year, that is they are grandfather in by virtue of their past accomplishments in the series.
Finishing position of the first race on Sunday determines the National Champions. The two Saturday races at Nationals will also count as double points races towards regional championships. for each 944 Cup Chapter. Overall finishing position determines points - 80 points max for each race.
Annual Awards Banquet
As happens every year, the 944 Cup Awards Banquet takes place the Saturday evening of 944 Cup Nationals weekend during which thousands of dollars of prizes are given away.
